The child conjunctivitis: what to do

Conjunctivitis in a child is a rather common phenomenon. Learn how to relieve the condition of the baby at the first symptoms of the disease.

The child’s eyes are red and he constantly rubs them? Does the kid complain of burning and itching? Most likely, he has conjunctivitis.

Conjunctivitis in young children occurs quite often, its main symptoms are the following symptoms:

  • Redness of the eyes;
  • Presence of purulent or mucous discharge from the eyes;
  • Itching and burning;
  • Increased lacrimation, sensitivity to light.

Often the pathology worsens the child’s well-being, the body temperature rises.

Treatment of conjunctivitis in a child should be carried out immediately after the appearance of the first symptoms strictly according to the doctor’s prescription. The doctor, first of all, should determine the cause of the inflammation – a viral or bacterial infection. If the disease has a pronounced allergic nature, you may be referred to an allergist for further examination.

Treatment of conjunctivitis is carried out strictly under the supervision of a doctor. Uncontrolled use of medicines or the use of folk methods can lead to the development of the inflammatory process of the cornea of the organ of vision.

Usually, local agents, in particular, eye drops and ointments, are used to treating the disease. With bacterial conjunctivitis, antibacterial agents are prescribed, and in the case of a viral infection, antiviral drugs are prescribed. Simultaneously with taking medication, the eyes should be treated with disinfectants, at least 4-8 times a day. Clear eyes in the direction from the outer to the inner corner of the eye.

If the conjunctivitis is not cured, an abscess and keratitis of the tissues located deeper can begin, so it is necessary to consult a doctor and begin therapy as soon as possible.
